My paintings are concerned with colour and method. The method may be a formula or records taken from observation, such as plotted movements or statistics. As I work, I want to clarify my intentions through deliberation and so the techniques chosen are as unambiguous as possible. For example, in my most recent series of paintings, the colour areas are adjusted by drilled holes. In spite of their precision, they adjust the colour gently, fading from one area to another. Anthony Howell, in his introduction to my work wrote that ‘it is as if a mist hung over part of the painting'. In this way, a space is made without any additional attempt at illusion.
