This painting was conceived to be hung in a corner of a generic office. The open space in the centre echoes the perspective of a desktop. The ‘Shade’ is thick black paint, registering the shadows of desks and office machinery. Beyond this the ‘Light’ is plastic, pigmented with a faintly creamy and marbled pattern, reminiscent of the effects of fluorescent lighting.

It is important to us that the work lies thinly and evenly over the wall. In order to ensure this, it is screwed to the wall from the front. The screw heads are also intended to accentuate the character of a workplace.
