Andrew Eden

 

 

introduction

 

Andrew Eden was born in 1946. He graduated with first class honours in Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art in 1969, exhibiting in ‘Young Contemporaries' London, in 1968. In the 70's he was co-editor/contributor to the artists' magazine, Wallpaper.

His latest one person exhibition was at the Galerie Salle Allende, Universite Libre de Bruxelles, in 2004.

In 2003, he developed a series of works based on the dynamics of a stretch of road in Northamptonshire. The series was exhibited as “A45 Ten Miles” at a former shoe factory, the New Gallery in Northampton 2004. This exhibition toured to Art Tango, London, in the same year.

Earlier one person shows include “Art for Circulation Spaces” at the Building Centre, London in 2001, Galerie Streitenfeld, Oberursal, Frankfurt in 1995 and the City Artists' Gallery, London in 1986.

Group exhibitions include John Moores 22, 2002, and between 1979 and 1985 examples of his work were included in thematic shows at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol and the Gardner Centre for the Arts, Brighton.

Recent Public Art projects and publications include “Corby Found Views”, which opened as part of Architecture Week 2005 and to accompany “A45 Ten Miles”, folding concertinas of postcard-views were distributed through roadside cafes and garages.

Awards and grants include Universite Libre de Bruxelles Culture Award 2004, Arts Council England [Public Arts and Architecture] 2004, Arts Council England 2003, 2001 and 1996. Press reviews and introductions to his work have been written by Marina Vaizey, Konstanze Cruwell, Anthony Howell, Isabelle Boccon-Gibod, Richard Coles and John Holden. Andrew Eden's work is held in collections in England and abroad, including the ULB Collection, Brussels, Galerie Streitenfeld, Oberursal and the Building Research Station in Watford, UK.
