One, Two and Four Trees 2007 150 x 121 x 12cm Oil on pigmented epoxy resin reinforced with fibreglass and diab. At the end of 2006, I became interested in the character of different individual painting approaches and how these might be reconciled. The aim was to present two approaches simultaneously without changing the essential character of either. The mix should be arranged so that neither element is dominant. The natural clash between the two would be a controlled confusion. This painting has its origin in two paintings of the same tree painted by two artists from an identical view point. In each case a section was chosen to reveal the essential difference between the two interpretations. The interpretations were then ‘mixed' through juxtaposition and repetition.
